In 2010, I became the first Asian woman elected to the Arizona State Legislature in our state’s history. As the only Chinese American currently serving in the Arizona Legislature, it is important to represent our community and its interests.
Chinese Americans are an integral part of our country’s great success as they have set forth tremendous efforts and have made significant contributions to the U.S. in various fields as science, engineering, business, education and the arts.
The number of Asian-American-owned businesses in Arizona is growing rapidly, and these businesses produce revenues that outweigh other minority groups, according to a recent report by the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Arizona.
Asian-American-owned businesses produced $6.1 billion in revenue in 2012, even though Asian-Americans make up just 4 percent of the state’s population.
The Asian population in Arizona nearly doubled between 2000 and 2010, the largest growth of any minority group. There are now more than 240,000 Asians in Arizona.
Revenue by Asian-American-owned businesses in Arizona grew 35 percent between 2007 and 2012.
Between 2007 and 2012, the number of Asian-owned businesses in Arizona also jumped 35 percent to 22,088 from 16,303, according to 2015 Census Bureau data.
Continued partnerships for trade and business is important to our great state. It is a testament that the President and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry is here tonight to share in this celebration and show his support for continuing strong relations in business and industry between our two countries.
There are so many business owners here tonight and I want to thank you for all that you have contributed to our economy in trade and business. You have helped to build he prosperity that Arizona enjoys today.
Best wishes as we continue to enjoy peace, pursue democracy and attain economic prosperity!
