Working with China in the Global Market at 2014 China Forum
(September 21, 2014 Tempe, ASU) China Forum has kept facilitating dialogue, generating great insights and bringing in richer understanding of Working with China in the Global Market in its sixth year with its distinguished panel speakers. Presented by the ASU Confucius Institute (ASU CI), School of International Letters and Cultures (SILC) and the United Chinese Association of Arizona (UCAA), 2014 China Forum was held in the Memorial Union Turquoise Ballroom of ASU Tempe campus, Sunday, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., September 21. The symposium is a part of the Mid-Autumn Celebration, which continued in the Memorial Union’s Arizona Ballroom from 4-6 p.m. Representatives of the Consulate General of People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles, government dignitaries, and community leaders joined this celebration.
Dr. Joe Cutter, director of the Confucius Institute and the School of International Letters and Cultures, introduced by forum planning committee co-chair, Tony Tam, stated ASU Confucius Institute抯 characterized by its academic strength and signature events like China Forum. He gave a warm welcome introduction to the Forum opening keynote speaker, Deputy Consul General Sun Lushan of Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Los Angeles.
Emily Tadano and Daniel Shum from Najafi Inc. decoded Working with China in the Global Market through long shots of Chinese media space market. Najafi Companies is an international private investment firm based in Phoenix, Arizona, with offices in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Toronto, London and holdings in sectors including consumer, media, technology, industrial, and real estate across seven countries. China Opportunities: Cultural Products and Media Industries shed lights on the burgeoning Chinese entertainment market and macro opportunities in the media space. The presentation also sketched an exciting scene of Hollywood’s pursuing Chinese customers in the climate of China’s actively promoting Chinese culture abroad.
Randal Schulhauser, Sr. Product Development Manager at Medtronic, Inc., presented audiences with Medtronic’s summary history in North America and growth in Greater China over the past four decades. Medtronic’s operation in the past 18 years in China, especially, has been no short than an album of the diverse and depending approach of China working with the world in
which leading global players like Medtronic can find ever expanding opportunities. Randal is a holder of 4 patents with another 6 applications filed at the US Patent Office. Published multiple articles in peer reviewed literature. He is currently a board member for the Arizona Bioindustry Association (AZBio), board member for the Arizona Chapter of the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and industry representative for the American Heart Association (AHA).
Jeff Wu, the Executive VP& Chief Marketing Officer at Pactera, closed up the forum by sharing the exciting Pactera Story: Path to Globalization. Pactera, the largest China based IT service company, has more than 22,000 professionals to serve larger engagements and provide a wider range of Business / IT consulting, solution, and outsourcing services to its global clients. Pactera’s meteoric rise in China Banking Solutions market in 2013 was a shining point in the industry and has successfully became the second largest domestic player, and overall third largest vendor in the China banking industry IT solutions market since 2013. Jeff Wu indicted that ”globalization seeks new market, new technology, cost efficiency, and IT service companies are the backbone behind all themes” His unique view towards acquisition and the global market as well as insights from his 20-plus years of IT marketing expertise were well received by audiences.
Distinguished speakers?enthusiastic speeches, invaluable insights and in-depth analysis with discussions generated great enthusiasm and further understanding towards the Chinese market in the globalization process.
A China Forum luncheon for dignitaries and speakers preceded the forum in honor of the five speakers at the event. Other guests included Paula West, President of Phoenix Sister Cities, Christina Mackay, Director of Economic Development at the City of Phoenix, Allen Yang, VP of UHaul, Doug Bruhnke, CEO of Growth Nation, Steven Tu, Chief Architect of Intel Corp and Dave Cano, Sr. Engineering Manager at Medtronic.
